Summer is definitely my favourite season. The days are longer, the weather is warmer, it’s colourful and a little more cheery most days, I can wear cute summer dresses and there is an abundance of fresh local and homegrown foods. The meals I eat during summer tend to be a lot lighter and easier to digest so I feel weighed down and bloated. Where I live, summer is only about 2 months of the year, and some foods just do not taste the same (as good) in other seasons. Take advantage of the beauty nutrients available by including fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits as well as these seven foods into your meal plan this summer to look and feel your best.
Beauty Buddha Bowls
You could probably label 2017 the year of “bowls.” They are trendy, beautiful and can packed with a balance of super healthy nutrients depending on what’s in them. Fill your buddha bowls with variety of vegetables, include a portion of high fibre whole grains (I’ve also used caulifower rice as lower carb options), a healthy protein and fat of your choice, and a yummy sauce to drizzle over the top. They are meals in one bowl overloading with vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients, and a range of antioxidants to help slow the signs of aging and keep you healthy from the inside reflecting on your beautiful outsides. Cool yourself down in the hot summer days with a colourful smoothie or smoothie bowl for easy digestible energy and a punch of youth boosting ingredients. Zucchini Crust Pizza
OR zucchini anything really! Our garden produces so much zucchini in it’s season – I could barely keep up with the recipes. This summer squash is versatile, low in calories, starches and sugars, while being a great source of fibre and antioxidants (hint – keep the peel on) to help your skin look great. Whole Food Popsicles/Fruitsicles
You’ll probably be seeing (or have already seen a lot of) these healthy treats pop up all over your Instagram and Pinterest feeds this summer and with good reason! You can make your own beautiful treats with fresh ingredients packed with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to support health from the inside out. There is no limit to the combos you can make to boost your beauty nutrient intake and by making your own you can avoid added refined sugars! Try some here.
Here’s another great cool down beauty treat! I scream, you scream, we all scream for nicecream 🙂 A delicious plant-based option, including nicecream this summer can help you avoid feeling deprived and feed you nutrients that regenerate cells and nourish the body. Water is vital for staying healthy and vibrant. Hydrate creatively and beautifully by adding extra vitamins throughout your day naturally and try infusing your water with a variety of fruits, herbs and veggies!

Fresh Summer Rolls
Fill up these easy to make…. that is once you get the hang of working with rice papers…fresh summer rolls with vegetables, herbs and a touch of fruit for complex flavours and a variety of health and beauty nutrients. Try adding a plant based protein such as cooked tofu and a healthy fat like avocado to help keep you full longer.
