I’m a little excitable today – Sask Fashion Week starts tomorrow (location – Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, incase your wondering where the heck this is)! And I am doing makeup backstage for the entire thing! This is my 4th year doing makeup for Sask Fashion Week and each time I do it, I grow as an artist and my passion for this industry sinks deeper into my heart ♥
But right now, back to the food!
I made this beautiful stack of roasted veggies, fresh homeade tomato sauce (raw), fresh homeade pesto (also raw), and vegan cheese inspired by healthy Mediterranean ingredients and flavours. I love the health and beauty benefits that comes along with eating a Mediterranean inspired diet (although I like to think of it more as a lifestyle and culture versus diet).
Quick insight into the Mediterranean way of eating
The Mediterranean diet is often looked at as a healthy way to eat and rightfully so! It is full of lots of vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, olives, nuts and moderate red wine (yes!). Fish, poultry, eggs, cheese and yogurt are also eaten a few times per week whereas lean red meat is only eaten a few times per month. Traditionally this diet has fresh, locally grown ingredients with almost no processed foods! Research shows the combination of the Mediterranean diet with a low stress and active lifestyle, helps protect the heart and against certain diseases as well as provide nutrients that boost beauty from the inside out!
