Have you ever tried to recreate a menu item from one of your favorite restaurants? This week I decided to take it upon myself to make a smoothie that I usually buy at a local juice bar. I’ve had some failures trying to recreate restaurant recipes in the past, mainly because I’m notorious for not following the recipe to a “t” and trying to make it healthier 🙂 I had 100% success recreating this smoothie! There are no hidden ingredients and it’s already made of fresh whole foods so I just had to guess the portions to match my liking! Not only am I going to save money in the long run, but I also have control of what and how much ingredients go into it!
The recipe is simple but it is chalk full of healthy beauty nutrients! The colour may be off-putting at first, somewhat of a dark purply green (oh the name of the smoothie is “Swamp thing”!). The green comes from the spirulina, which is a type of blue-green algae and something I consider a Superfood! It is a rich source of antioxidants, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, iron and a complete protein.
So here it is, my recreation of “The Swamp Thing”
Glowing Antioxidant Smoothie (serves 1-2)
1 frozen banana, sliced
1 cup frozen unsweetened blueberries
1 1/2 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of your choice)
2 tsp spirulina
2 Tbsp plain greek yogurt
1/4 tsp matcha powder (optional but so worth it!)
Stevia to taste (optional)
Blend all ingredients until smooth! Enjoy and suck back this antioxidant rich youth tonic!
